Pathimukham, also known as East Indian Rosewood or Sappan wood, is an excellent thirst quencher and blood purifier when boiled in water. The medicinal part of the this tree is the hard, heartwood, which turns pink when boiled with water. The heartwood of the tree is particularly valued for its various uses and benefits.


Cooling the Body, Naturally


One of the most well-known traditional uses of Pathimukham is its ability to cool the body internally. Because of its sheeta (cooling) nature, it has long been consumed to help manage:


  • Excess thirst
  • Dry mouth and body heat
  • Discomfort during hot and humid weather

How to Use


  • Take 1 small piece of Pathimukham
  • Boil in 1–2 litres of water
  • Simmer for 5–10 minutes
  • The water will turn light reddish naturally
  • Cool and drink. This can be used again to boil water for 2-3 times.
