Based on the obligatory requirements of Indian standards as well as well Conservation of Petroleum gas for the LPG Stoves, BTH added another feather to its cap and created the test facility to serve the need of PAN India manufacturers to utilize BTH services to obtain manufacturing license from the Bureau of Indian Standards. The test facility was created a DECADE back is fully operational and regularly serves our customers.

The test Facility is also regularly utilized by our National Standard Body-BIS who draws the sample from manufacturing premises and further dispatched to LAB for verification of Qualitative test. BTH was empaneled with BEE for check testing of LPG Stoves

Later the test facility for Domestic Pressure Cookers was also added to the existing facility to help & serve PAN India manufacturers to utilize BTH services to obtain manufacturing license from BIS for domestic pressure cookers to sell their products in the retail markets. Many manufacturers are currently regularly utilizing the test facility.

One of the core operations services of BTH also includes test facility for the Food and Agriculture products in the field of Physico-Chemical tests including Toxic/Heavy metals, Micro-biological Organoleptic/Sensory tests. The existing test facility under the Food Agro product category covers the laid down requirements of the relevant Indian Standards as well as of Food Safety Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). This covers individual raw foods from Cereals, Pulses, spices etc. as well as packaged/processed Food Products including Oils & Fats.

We are one of the Testing Lab in North India, NABL accredited as per ISO/IEC 17025 who are also approved by FSSAI for chemical and biological testing of food and agricultural products.

BTH is having more than twenty years experience as an independent food testing lab. Our services are offered to all the needy customers as well as individual for the food testing where the services are needed for compliance, adulteration or qualitative verification.

BTH has always been proactive to fulfill the needs of its customers especially from SMEs to enable & support them on the existing and new test facilities. This enables them to test their products and obtain certificate from National Standard Bodies-BIS to meet the laid down mandatory requirements.

Fire Extinguishers Tests

Environmental testing for the equipment and sub-units is broadly subjecting to different climatic conditions like High & ultra-Low Temperature, High & low Humidity, Dry, Vibrations etc to examine the behavior of the products especially on durability under harsh environmental conditions.

BTHPL is now equipped to simulate the recommended environmental conditions to verify the effects on products/instruments and component's performance. Environmental conditions & Tests such as Dry Heat, Damp Heat, Cyclic Test, Composite Temperature/Humidity, Impact, Vibrations (Sinusoidal), Salt Mist, Dust, Corrosion, Low Air Pressure etc can be simulated in the lab as per different Indian and International standards & requirements like IS, IEC etc. Presently, In India BTHPL is already conducting the environment test on the Electronics & Information Technology products and sub-assemblies as well as for other related products that may also cover Mil category.

Basic Environmental Testing Procedures for Electronic and Electrical Items The accredited test facility are covered as per Indian & International standard IS 9000, IEC 60068-, QM 333, 28 of JSS 55555, IEC 61373 & Ingress protection IP1X to IP8X.

Metal and Alloys are the key materials for any product manufacturing or processes of construction of structure, building of machinery or processing raw materials into finished products. Equipment and Components in the infrastructure areas like power Plants, large scale/heavy industry do come across different operating conditions and demonstrate effects of various processes depending on the stress & strain and life cycle.

BTH test facility in examining the several parts/components made of metals & alloys through physical, Chemical non-destructive, XRF etc methods by employing recommended methods and instruments.

In India, BTH lab services is adequately equipped to test various metals and alloys for Qualitative and Quantitative analysis as per the various related Indian standards as well as customer’s requirements that also covers raw materials and finished goods.

Medical equipments have penetrated in all walks of life where they have replaced the conventional and old designed/bulky devices with the most sophisticated, highly sensitive compact & digital ones. Therefore their safe operation is also a major concern where for such equipments, there is no compromise on Safety and Durability since the devices are operated continuously for hours and days. Hence looking into the requirements in India, BTHPL has introduced the test facility to conduct Key Safety Test on Medical Devices where recommended tests as per National and International standards have been defined.

Electrical safety testing in general is essential to ensure safe operating functions for any product that uses electrical power. Various governments and other agencies have developed stringent requirements for electrical products that are sold across the world. In most of the countries, it is mandatory for a medical devices operated on electricity to conform to safety standards implemented by regulatory agencies. To conform to such standards, the product must pass safety parameters. The current scope of Safety Testing in BTHPL includes Input Power; Marking & Instructions; Determination of Accessible Parts; Potential Equalization; Surface Coating; Protective Earthing; Functional Earthing; Leakage Current & Patient’s Auxiliary Current; Plugs & Sockets; Resistance to Environmental Stress; Dielectric Strength; Accessible Parts including Applied Part; Functional Earth Terminals; Creepage Distances & Air Clearance; Overflow, Spillage, Leakage Ingress of Water on Particular Matter, Cleaning, Disinfection, Sterilization and Compatibility with Substances used with ME Equipments.

MOU: CSIR-Central   Scientific   Instruments Organisation and BTHPL have formally joined hands for Testing & Calibration of Medical & Bio-medical instruments like Defibrillator, Electrical Safety Test, Electro Surgical Device, ECG, X-Ray Unit, Patient Monitoring System, Ultrasonic-Therapy Unit, Photo-Therapy Unit, Infant Incubator, Pulse Oximeter, NIBP Monitoring System

Test Equipments or the Measuring Instruments are the inherent part of any test laboratory where it is almost impossible to conduct any test without having validated test equipment duly calibrated from time to time. The authenticity of test results as well as test reports issued by a test laboratory is not acceptable if the test equipments are not calibrated regularly. Thus measuring instruments equally play a significant role in ensuring the authenticity, accuracy and reliability of any testing conducted in the test lab for numerous parameters. In India, BTHPL’s integrated test facility on Instruments for Measurements and Laboratory use covers Electrical Control Equipments, Electrical Microscopes, Power Supply, Auto Transformer, Electrical Laboratory Equipment, Signal Generators, Transducers, Transmitters etc, to fulfill the customer requirements especially for equipments/instruments where wear & tear as well as possibility of developing deviations/variations are high in certain measuring instruments.

The existing test facility of BTH was also added with the scope to test Papers and Allied products as well as the test facility to cover the requirement for Inter-Granular Corrosion(IGC) Test, Pre-fillers for Expansion Joints to meet the requirement of specific institutions/customers who needed the test facility services to fulfill their requirement for lab analysis/verification as per the laid down national & international standards.

BTHPL has an excellent test facility to conduct testing for Electrical Power supplies, Voltage Stabilizers, Line Voltage Corrector, Inverters, UPS etc. covered broadly under Power Electronics testing. It covers products like commonly used Un interruptible Power Supplies, Solid State Inverters, Voltage Stabilizers, Servo Stabilizers, Line Voltage Corrector, Servo-motor operated Automatic Line Voltage Corrector for Domestic Use etc. UPS and Inverters are also tested under the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS), notified by Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), Govt. of India. The existing test facility was regularly expanded to cater to the growing demand of customers including up-gradation of their products as well as new products testing are also undertaken.

The Performance and Safety Tests covered as per IS 16242-1 & 16242-3 and IS 13314, as applicable include Abnormal Operation and Abnormal Service Condition, AC/ DC Power Isolation, Clearance & Creep-age Distance, Climatic Tests, Total Harmonics, Consumption, Electric Strength, Insulation Resistance, Mechanical Strength, No Load test, Protection against Electric Shock, Stability, Temperature rise, Wiring, Connection, Supply, Acoustic Noise, Dynamic Performance, Efficiency, Harmonics Distribution, Inrush current etc.

BTH had been in the core business of testing of Plastic and Plastic products/components, rubber, polymers and large variety of related products. It has the credible test facility to meet the industries’ demand for various test parameters required to be analyzed as per the Indian and related International standards or as per clients specific requirements/specifications.

BTH in its core testing services endeavors, the test facility for analyzing various category of petroleum products was also included covering HSD, LDO, Lubricating oils, Fuel oil, Turbine oils, Insulating oils and Hydraulic oils as well as related products of petroleum.

This was due to sustained growing demand of the petroleum products, thus necessity for verification of quality of these products was felt based on the requirement of relevant Indian Standards to benefit the end-users.

In India, BTH has been meeting the testing requirements of regular customers including institutional category where the analysis are carried out as per the Indian Standards requirements.

The existing test facility was also added with the testing for variety of Coals & Cokes where the test methods/instruments are closely related to the petroleum products. For Details, see table below:

Petroleum Products

Bharat Test House (BTH) has the test facility for various Microbiological Tests related to the risks of various contamination. It is well equipped with most of the tests as required as per the Food Safety & Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

Bharat Test House realizes the risk of microbiological contamination, which is a key area of concern in the Food Processing Units/Food manufacturing units within the food supply chain. Bharat Test House has State-of-the-art test facility in its Food Testing division of the laboratory. We have highly qualified and experienced Microbiologists in the Microbial testing Division. Now-a-days, the Microbial tests are also required to be conducted on the personal & health care products, Cosmetics, Pharma & AYUSH products. Since it involves very high degree of competency, accurate testing is very important for full range of potentially harmful food-borne micro-organisms, including pathogens like Salmonella, Shigella, E-Coli, S.Aureus, Listeria along with spoilage organisms like Yeasts & Molds.

The experienced staff of BTH regularly test various microbial tests on the food products as required in the FSSAI and other related standards. To ensure that products are safe once they reach the market, our testing services help to determine if food is safe to consume and free from harmful micro-organisms.

Looking into the expansion of various Fabric Manufacturing units in the neighboring northern states producing Raw and finishes fabrics, the necessity of credible testing facility was felt. BTH already had been in the core business of testing of similar products especially where the Chemical tests were inter-related for a large variety of products. It has expanded its test facility to meet the testing demand for various test parameters required to be analyzed as per the Indian and related International standards or as per clients specific requirements/specifications.

The key chemical tests that are needed for Wooven and Non-woven fabrics covers Ash content, Colour fastness to bleaching, Colour fastness to cleaning, Colour fastness to washing, Colour fastness to water, Colour fastness to light, Colour fastness to organic solvent, Colour fastness to rubbing / crock meter, Colour fastness to perspiration, Dimensional change, Moisture content, pH value of aqueous extract of textile material, Scouring loss, Water soluble matter, Colour fastness to sea water, Fiber composition etc

BTH lab is accredited for Testing of Telecom Devices, Equipment & Accessories under IS 13252 under IT & Electronics Equipment by considering the requirements of TEC (Telecom Engineering Centre) under Ministry of Telecom. Accordingly, the test facility has been enhanced to meet the GR & IR requirements as per TEC test specifications that mainly cover Electronics Safety and EMI/EMC Compliance for Telecom products/Accessories.

BTHPL test facility was designated as CAB(Conformity Assessment Body) by TEC(Telecom Engineering Center) DOT(Department Of Telecom) Govt. in india, to examine Telecom Devices’ Operation, Performance & Safety. Telecom facility is equipped with Combined Telecom Equipment Tester (Herman Laboratory Tele-conformance Analyzer). The facility also includes EMC Compliance required for TEC including CISPR 11 and CISPR 22, CISPR 32, ITU Standard Testing and CE Marking facility for all the Telecom Equipment.

As per latest Gazette notification by DOT, "TEC will be implementing mandatory Testing and Certification of Telecom Equipment, prior to sale/import/use in the country, is under consideration in Department of Telecommunications telecom equipments manufacturers are obliged to go for TEC registration by testing in the TEC approved laboratories designated as CABs, who will test and certified the telecom equipments conforming to TEC specification /requirements ”. The Essential Requirements (ER) to be complied for the purpose of certification under this procedure would be:

1. General Requirements: a) EMI/EMC b) Safety
2. Security Requirements
3. Technical Requirements
4. Other Requirements: SAR, ROHS, IPv6 etc.

Bharat Test House (P) Ltd (BTHPL) has been designated as Conformity Assessment Body (CAB) for Safety EMI/EMC Testing of Telecom Equipment, by Telecom Engineering Center (TEC), Department of Telecommunication, Govt. of India in 2016.

Wireless Devices

Wireless devices have found its wider applications across variety of very high tech products (Keyboard, Scanners, Laptops, and Printers etc.) to very low-end products including electronic toys. Many products operated on electrical power, can be operated through the wireless devices namely Wi-Fi routers/modems, wireless mouse, wireless keyboard, wireless headphones, wireless smart watches, Wi-Fi USB pen-drives, wireless speakers etc primarily for Convenience and Safety of human beings. Now a day, even Pedestal/Ceiling fans can also be operated through the wireless control instead of manual control. Hence, Safety is also a matter of concern since it radiates certain amount of power. To address this issue, BTH lab has also added test facility as per WPC(Wireless Planning and Coordination) requirements under ETA(Equipment Type Approval) to examine operations, performance and safety of wireless devices. The EMC/EMI test lab facility would also cover tests on various low power wireless devices are being widely used in the IT & Electronic where EMC is essential to comply as per WPC requirement products for satisfactory remote operations as per IS/IEC/EN/WPC/TEC requirements.

The current test facility is mainly consisting of testing of Wireless & Bluetooth devices as per WPC, of Ministry of Communication & Information Technology requirements for all wireless equipments, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth devices covering Wi-Fi routers/modems, wireless mouse & keyboard and headphones, wireless smart watches, Wi-Fi USBs, pen-drives, wireless speakers, etc. BTH Lab has the test facility as per WPC open to the domestic & overseas manufacturers who plans to sell their products in India after getting tested and obtaining approval from WPC. WPC ETA Approval is mandatory from WPC for the low power fixed frequency wireless operated devices.

Soaps & Detergents is one of the top selling & fast moving category of FMCG products. Looking into the demand of industry in the Soaps and Toiletries categories of products, it was felt to enhance the existing test facility to be able to test/analyze samples of Laundry/Toilet/Detergent Soaps as well as Detergent powders. Since there are some prominent regional and national manufacturers in this discipline, the test facility was created by BTH and made operational to assist the industry as well other potential customers for analysis of Soaps and Detergents.

India is one of the Largest producer and consumer of the Soaps & detergents.

Specific absorption rate is the measurable quantity which determines the amount of electromagnetic radiation absorbed by the human tissue when subjected to an electromagnetic field.

Most of the IoT devices and advanced cellular technologies are being used in close proximity to the human body. Any wireless device operating within 20cm from the body with a threshold power must undergo SAR testing.

Excessive exposure to radio frequency (RF) energy can damage human tissue. To prevent this, many countries around the world have introduced standards that limit the amount of RF exposure allowed from transmitters of all types.

RF exposure is evaluated using a “phantom” that simulates the electrical characteristics of the human head or body. The RF energy penetrating the “phantom” is monitored by precisely positioned probes that measure SAR in watts per kilogram of tissue.

In the United States, the FCC regulates SAR under 47 CFR Part 2, section 2.1093. Products intended for general use must meet a SAR limit of 1.6 mW/g averaged over one gram of tissue in any part of the head or body, and 4 mW/g averaged over 10 grams for hands, wrists, feet and ankles.

In the European Union, RF exposure limits have been established by Council Recommendation 1999/519/EC. Harmonized standards cover the most common products such as cell phones and RFID devices. The limits and methods of RF exposure evaluation in the EU are similar but not identical to those in the US.

The SAR Laboratory of Bharat Test House is capable of making SAR measurement for Wireless products such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, ZigBee, RFID etc. and Cellular technologies such as GSM 2G and UMTS 3G and LTE mobile handsets in the frequency band of 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz and 2100 MHz in terms of IEEE standard based Test Procedure as per on International Electro-technical Commission (IEC) standard 62209-1 and 62209-2.

BTH being in the core business of production and testing of rubber, polymers, plastics & related products, has the adequate test facility to meet the industries’ demand for various test parameters required to be analyzed as per the Indian standards or clients specific requirements. It has catered to the customer's needs right from its inception and continues to serve the regular customers associated with the manufacturing of different category of rubber, polymer, plastics and related products to analyze their composition, strength, durability, life etc

Polymers constitutes broad composition of materials that included rubber, resins, plastics and fibers. They have vast usage in various sectors of life from domestic to industrial applications. Testing and verification of polymers are necessary to examine the quality and performance of materials and products manufactured of them. BTH offer broad range of testing services to various sectors.

BTH key emphasis is on the product/Raw material producing industries that want to test their Product or Raw material for certification, research, identification of the nature or composition of competitors/market-picked products.

Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF), Government of India is the nodal agency to address the Issues related to management of Waste of Electrical, Electronic Equipments (WEEE) and Restrictions of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) . MoEF has notified (S.O. 1035) the Electronic wastes (Management and Handling) Rules, 2010 on 12th May 2011 to address the Safe and Environmentally Friendly Handing, Transporting, Storage, Recycling of Electronic Waste and also to reduce the use of hazardous substances during manufacturing of Electrical and Electronic equipments.

These are the first ever-exclusive rules on Electronic Waste in India. The chapter V of the rules has also covered the reduction in the use of hazardous substances in the manufacture of the Electrical and Electronic equipments. This rule has been enacted from 1st May 2012 and rules relating to RoHS has come into effect from 2014. The electronic wastes (Management and Handling) Rules, 2010 address reduction in the use of hazardous substances in the manufacture of Electrical and Electronic equipments.

RF technology is one of the fastest growing technologies in the world with the everlasting demand for more compact RF devices. Improvements in the RF technology have led a new foundation to the cellular technologies, Internet of things, satellite communication and even in military and medical field applications.

Many types of wireless devices make use of RF technology. Cordless and cell phones, radio and television broadcast stations, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, satellite communications systems and two-way radio communication system, all operate in the RF spectrum. In addition, other appliances outside of communications including microwave ovens and garage-door openers operate at radio frequencies. Some wireless devices like TV remote controls, some cordless computer keyboards and computer mice, operate at IR frequencies, which have shorter electromagnetic wavelengths.

In order to limit the misuse of radio frequency bands and to make sure the radiation exposure from the radio waves is not harmful to the living beings, many countries around the world has set their own rules and standards, where any wireless devices which has to be manufactured or imported for a commercial use must comply with the directives, rules or standards applicable to the territory. As per Indian telecom regulatory requirements, wireless device manufacturer or importer must undergo rules led by Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC) before marketing their products inside India.

Bharat Test House is one of the few labs in India capable of performing RF regulatory compliance testing of intentional emissions from wireless devices as per the standards defined by the Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC) and has been designated as the Conformity Assessment Body (CAB) to perform the following technical requirements as listed in TEC website.

BTHPL has operationlized the test facility for testing of various Rotating Machines or commonly called as Domestic, Agriculture and other pump-sets including submersible & Jet-pump category as per the existing/relevant BIS specifications. The test facility is being utilized by prominent manufacturers.

Currently the test facility can cover the pump sets up to 50 HP and is being expanded to much higher capacity depending upon the client’s requirements.

BTHPL was also empaneled with Bureau of Efficiency for check testing of various Agriculture pump sets.

BTH felt the need to have the test facility to meet the growing demand of various customers for Wood & Wood products especially institutional customers that have the obligation for certification for bulk sourcing/bulk procurement of approved products. Therefore looking into the necessity, test facility was established to conduct various Mechanical, Chemical and Environmental tests for Wood & Woods products as per Indian Standards requirements. The accredited test facility that is being utilized by the regular customers is as per the scope of relevant Indian Specifications.

Pulp Papers:

Looking into the demand for the test facility to test various test parameters needs to judge the Quality of the papers as well as related material/product, the test facility of BTH was expanded to cover testing of different papers. The accredited test services are available to the manufacturers for various Quality parameters to test different types of papers

Bharat Test House has been enlisted with the IAPMO India(International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials) for Product Certification of Plumbing & WC (Water Closet) Sanitary Wares as per the requisite standard’s requirements. The test facility covers different WC & Sanitary-ware products including sub-assemblies/units/plumbings namely Vitreous Sanitary Appliances (Vitreous China) – (WC Pans, Bidet, Squatting pans, Urinals, partition plates, pedestals, short pedestals, wash basins, Laboratory sinks, drinking fountains, flushing cistern and covers) IS 2556 P1-15, Ceramic Plumbing Fixtures ASME A11.2:19.2:2008/CSA B-45.1-08

Pneumatic Tyres for the automotive vehicles is very important in the Safety of the vehicle and occupants. Examining the Performance especially endurance of tyre and tyre construction is critical in determining their real-time performance on the drive, handling and safety of all the vehicles including Scooters, Motor-bikes, Auto-rickshaw, Cars & commercial vehicles.

BTHPL is equipped with tyre testing facility and accredited by NABL for testing automotive vehicle - pneumatic tyres for passenger vehicle (Diagonal & Radial Ply) IS 15633:2005, automotive vehicle - pneumatic tyres for two & three wheeled motor vehicle (Diagonal & Radial Ply) IS 15627:2005, automotive vehicle - pneumatic tyres for commercial vehicle (Diagonal & Radial Ply) IS 15636:2005.

Depending upon the concerns raised from various quarters especially on Safety from Toxic Materials used in the manufacturing of Toys, all imported Toys have been made mandatory to undergo sample testing as per the notification of Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Ministry of Commerce & industry, Govt. of India.

Based on the expanding horizon of the testing facilities, BTH Labs have also entered into a new area of testing where all types of Toys are tested as per national and international standards. The scope of testing covers Safety of materials, Wash-ability, Various strengths & Mechanisms, Electrical Safety & Quality Tests, Stability, Durability, Sharp Edges, Abuse tests, Magnetic tests, Projectiles, Flammability, Environmental Tests etc. The specifications as applicable to the Toys are IS 9873: 2017/ISO 8124 and IS 15644:2006/IEC 62115:2003.

BTH has timely served various manufacturers/Importers/distributors at critical stages, at the time when it was needed most by them to get their consignments released from Customs, based on producing the Test reports. BTH continues to serve them from time to time as based on the requirement at regular intervals.
