In HIV treatment, Truvada is used in combination with other antiretroviral agents to suppress viral replication, reduce viral load, and increase CD4 counts. In HIV prevention, it is used as Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) to reduce the risk of acquiring HIV in high-risk individuals.Indications: Treatment of HIV-1 infection (as part of combination therapy). Prevention (PrEP): To lower the risk of HIV-1 infection in HIV-negative individuals at high risk.Mechanism of Action: Tenofovir and Emtricitabine are both nucleoside/nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs). They block the reverse transcriptase enzyme, preventing viral replication and reducing HIV multiplication in the body.
