Overview

Looking for Porcelain? Indian stalwart Global Sourcing Company is the perfect destination for your procurement requirements.Porcelain is a high-fired ceramic known for its strength, translucency, and fine white texture. Definition :Porcelain is a vitrified pottery with a white, fine-grained body that's usually translucent when thin, distinguishing it from porous earthenware. It achieves its properties through firing at 1,200–1,450°C (2,200–2,650°F), creating a non-porous, resonant material.Translucency is visible when held to light.Composition :True hard-paste porcelain consists of kaolin, feldspar, quartz (or petuntse), and sometimes clay. These fuse during high-temperature firing, forming mullite for durability and low permeability. Types :Hard-paste: High-fired Chinese style using kaolin and petuntse; strongest and most translucent. Soft-paste: European imitation with lower firing temps and materials like glass frit. Bone china: Adds bone ash for whiteness and lightness.

Product Description

Uses :

Common in tableware, tiles, dental products, and insulators due to heat resistance, hardness, and chemical stability. It's prized for beauty and longevity in dinnerware and decor.

Porcelain is crafted through a precise, multi-stage process involving raw materials, shaping, drying, and high-temperature firings.

Raw Materials :

Key ingredients include kaolin (white clay), petuntse (feldspar/quartz rock), and sometimes feldspar or bone ash for specific types. These are crushed, purified, and mixed with water into a liquid "slip" or plastic dough for workability.

Preparation and Shaping :

The slip is poured into plaster molds (slip casting) or pressed/extruded into forms like plates or slabs. Excess slip drains off as molds absorb water, forming a solid shell; items like handles are attached separately and refined by hand.

Drying:

Pieces air-dry for hours to days on porous surfaces, preventing cracks and preparing for firing.

First Firing (Biscuit) :

Items undergo "biscuit" firing at 950–1,000°C for 16–20 hours, hardening the body while keeping it porous for glazing.

Glazing and Decoration :

Glaze (a glassy coating) is applied by dipping or spraying, often with pigments for color; designs may be painted or printed.

Final Firing (Glost):

High firing at 1,200–1,450°C (often 1,300–1,380°C) for hours vitrifies the porcelain, fusing glaze and body into a translucent, durable finish. Cooling follows slowly to avoid stress.
