What are the specifications of this product?

Overview

Raw coco peat naturally contains high sodium and potassium levels that can cause nutrient deficiencies (calcium/magnesium lockout) and hinder plant growth.Coco peat is washed, soaked in calcium nitrate for 24–36 hours (allowing calcium to replace potassium/sodium in the cation exchange sites), and then rinsed again.Stable cation exchange capacity (CEC) allows for better nutrient uptake.Lower sodium reduces the risk of salt stress on plants.Ideal for hydroponics, seed propagation, and container gardening. Provides a predictable and stable environment for sensitive roots.

Product Description

Buffering Process Details: The process involves flushing raw coir, soaking it in a calcium nitrate solution for 2-3 days, and then rinsing. A standard ratio for large-scale buffering is 7 kg of calcium nitrate mixed with 1,000 liters of water to treat 5 cubic meters of coco peat.
Reduced Nutrient Lockout: Prevents calcium and magnesium deficiencies.
Improved Growth: Ideal for hydroponics, seed germination, and sensitive, high-value crops.
Stability: Ensures stable pH and reduces salt accumulation.
A final slurry test (typically with 2 parts water to 1 part coco) should be performed to ensure the electrical conductivity (EC) is 0.6 or lower after the final rinse.

Buyer questions

Frequently asked by buyers

Common questions B2B buyers ask before sourcing Buffered Coco Peat (Coir Pith). Answers compiled from verified sellers' commercial terms and platform data.

Q: What is buffered coco peat used for?
A: It is used as a stable growing medium for hydroponics, seed propagation, container gardening, and sensitive-root crops where low salt levels and predictable nutrient uptake are important.
Q: Why is coco peat buffered with calcium nitrate?
A: Calcium nitrate replaces excess sodium and potassium on the cation exchange sites, helping prevent calcium and magnesium lockout and improving nutrient availability to plants.
Q: What EC level should buffered coco peat reach after rinsing?
A: The final slurry test should typically show an EC of 0.6 or lower after the final rinse.
Q: What is the buffering process for this coco peat?
A: The material is washed, soaked in a calcium nitrate solution for 24 to 36 hours or 2 to 3 days, and then rinsed again to remove displaced salts.
Q: What is the calcium nitrate mixing ratio for large-scale buffering?
A: A standard large-scale ratio is 7 kg of calcium nitrate mixed with 1,000 liters of water to treat 5 cubic meters of coco peat.
Q: Is this product suitable for hydroponic farming?
A: Yes, it is specifically described as ideal for hydroponics because buffering improves CEC stability and reduces salt stress in the root zone.
Q: What is the minimum order quantity for this product?
A: The minimum order quantity is 1 kilogram.
Q: Is this product suitable for export and wholesale supply?
A: Yes, it is positioned as factory direct, export-ready, and suitable for wholesale, bulk order, and OEM supply.
