Bagasse Plates

Bagasse Plates — Technical Details and Procurement Notes

Bagasse plates are manufactured from sugarcane fiber and offer a compostable alternative to plastic disposables. Key attributes include fiber density, thermal resistance, and surface finish which together determine performance for hot foods and saucy items. Packaging format and carton counts influence logistics and on-site handling for event caterers.

Technical Attributes

• Material: molded sugarcane fiber (bagasse) designed for compostability under commercial composting conditions.
• Performance: suitable for hot and cold foods; confirm grease resistance specification for specific menu items.
• Form factor: round and square options with capacity suited to plates (portion sizes dependent on design).
• Packaging: retail-ready trays or bulk cartons for catering supply chains.

Applications

Catering events: disposable plates for large-scale food service. Constraint: grease-heavy menu items require higher resistance. Outcome: straightforward disposal via composting channels.

Retail ready packs: packaged for convenience stores and take-away outlets. Constraint: retail shelf presentation and pack durability. Outcome: reduced retail waste footprint and simpler stocking.

Corporate cafeterias: single-use options that simplify waste handling when composting infrastructure is available. Constraint: local composting acceptance. Outcome: streamlined disposal when composting is arranged.

Sourcing Checklist

Confirm grease resistance, thermal tolerance, and packaging counts. Request performance samples for representative menu items.
