AVOSTERIDE Capsule is a specialized medication widely used in the treatment and management of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), commonly known as prostate gland enlargement. The active ingredient in AVOSTERIDE is Dutasteride, a synthetic 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor that works by blocking the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the primary hormone responsible for prostate enlargement in adult males. Dutasteride effectively reduces serum and intraprostatic DHT levels, which leads to a gradual reduction in prostate size, improved urinary flow, and relief from the urinary symptoms associated with BPH.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia is a common condition affecting aging men, particularly those over the age of 50. It causes the prostate gland to grow in size, which can compress the urethra and restrict normal urine flow. Symptoms of BPH include difficulty initiating urination, weak or interrupted urine stream, frequent urination (especially at night), urgency, incomplete bladder emptying, and sometimes painful urination. These symptoms, though not life-threatening, can significantly affect a man’s quality of life. AVOSTERIDE Capsule is prescribed as a long-term therapy to alleviate these symptoms and reduce the risk of acute urinary retention and the need for invasive surgical procedures.

Dutasteride, the active compound in AVOSTERIDE, inhibits both type I and type II isoforms of the 5-alpha-reductase enzyme. This dual inhibition makes it more effective than Finasteride, which only blocks one type. As a result, Dutasteride achieves a more profound and sustained reduction in DHT levels. Clinical studies have shown that Dutasteride reduces prostate volume by approximately 25% after six months of therapy and improves urinary symptoms within 3 to 6 months of continued use. AVOSTERIDE is often prescribed as monotherapy or in combination with alpha-blockers such as tamsulosin, which further enhance urinary flow and reduce symptom scores.
