Alphonso Mango
Alphonso mangoes are known as the 'king of mangoes', and for good reason!
These small, somewhat egg-shaped mangoes from India first gained popularity in the UK after they were shipped to London for Queen Elizabeth’s coronation in 1953. They have smooth, golden-yellow skin, which, when the fruits are fully ripe, develops an eye-catching saffron hue and a red blush. One bite of their soft, immensely succulent flesh will leave you hungry for more, as your tastebuds are wowed by its creamy texture and rich sweetness. The flesh is also notably non-fibrous, which means alphonso mangoes are an easier - and infinitely less messy! - variety to devour.
As well as being mouth-wateringly delectable, alphonso mangoes boast a number of nutritional benefits. In particular, they are an excellent source of potassium and magnesium.
Kesar Mango
These mangoes, also known as 'gir kesar' mangoes, are one of the most popular mangoes in their native India - they're so renowned that they have earned the nickname the 'queen of mangoes', and for good reason!
As well as being flavoursome and versatile, kesar mangoes boast a range of nutritional benefits. In particular, they are an excellent source of dietary fibre, have a high content of vitamins A and C, and also provide a good amount of magnesium and potassium
