The IT industry in Hyderabad took shape when Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) set-up operations in the city, way back in 1979. Over the years, TCS has made a significant contribution not only to the growth of the IT Industry in Hyderabad but also to enriching the community. Today, TCS Hyderabad (TCSH) serves global and domestic customers from various industries including Banking and Financial Services, Insurance, Securities, Telecom and Media, Technology, Manufacturing, Consumer Goods, Travel & Hospitality, and Government. Over the past 15 years, TCS operations in Hyderabad have grown more than twenty times, from 4500 employees in 2007, to over 90,000+ employees in 2022. In a pioneering initiative in 2002, TCSH and the erstwhile state of Andhra Pradesh (AP) came together to launch a joint venture, APOnline, offering citizen services to enrich the government-citizen interface. APOnline is now APTOnline, a joint venture between TCS and the governments of both AP and Telangana. This successful model has been adopted by other state governments. Recently, TCS partnered with IIIT-Hyderabad and the TCS Foundation funded the Dr. F.C. Kohli Research Centre on Intelligent Systems at IIIT Hyderabad. Hyderabad continues to be an integral part of the TCS growth strategy.
