So how do you beat burnout? Here are some five practical tips to help you fight burnout and stay on track.
1. Remember your why
Go back to the compelling reason why you started your business. Is it for freedom? Is it for your family? Or is it to transform society? Simon Sinek, author of bestselling book Start with Why, defines ‘why’ as the purpose, cause, or belief that drives every organization and every person’s individual career.
Why did you establish your business? Knowing your ‘why’ rekindles passion into your work. You will realize that you’re working hard for a greater purpose than yourself.
2. Know the root
When the root of a tree is comprised, it will lack necessary nourishment to grow and survive.
What’s causing you to suffer from burnout? Once you figure out the root cause, it will help you address the problem properly and will prevent you from seeking a band aid solution. Are you deprived of sleep lately? Then, you should schedule your sleep and avoid any digital activities at night in order to get proper rest. Are you experiencing fatigue due to your hectic schedule? Then, you should start to delegate tasks to your team.
3. Take a vacation
You deserve a break. It’s vital to reward yourself after juggling multiple responsibilities and working hard. Let your work take a backseat for a week or two, take time to reflect, and focus on replenishing your soul and body, so that you will have enough energy and strength when you get back as the chief captain of your business.
4. Maximize your team
To beat burnout, you should learn to delegate tasks to your team. This will not only lessen your workload effectively, but will also allow your team to grow as you utilize their skills and strengths. Make sure that you prepare and train them to ensure a proper and smooth transition of work.
5. Practice self-care habits
You are one of the greatest assets of your company, that’s why you need to take care of yourself. As the old adage goes, ‘health is wealth’. How can you manage your business if you aren’t well? Some self-care habits you can start with are:
- Start a journal
- Learn to say ‘no’
- Take more personal time to reflect and meditate
- Nourish your skin
- Choose who you spend time with
- Get a massage
- List down three things you are grateful for everyday
